The Lake District, also commonly known as The Lakes, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous not only for its lakes and its mountains (or fells) but also for its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets.
The majority of the area was designated as the Lake District National Park in 1951. It is the largest of the thirteen National Parks in England and Wales.
It lies entirely within the modern county of Cumbria, shared historically by the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire. All the land in England higher than three thousand feet above sea level lies within the National Park, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. It also contains the deepest and longest lakes in England, Wastwater and Windermere, respectively.
The Anglers Arms, just 100yds away, offers excellent food and a good range of guest beers.

Lovely place to stay, 20 min drive to Bowness on Windermere and a pub 2 minute walk away. The house provided everything you need and we were gifted two bottles of prosecco when we arrived to bring in the new year! Lovely touch. Definitely recommend.

Homely cottage with every facility. Fully equipped kitchen - complete with that rarity in a rental cottage, a wooden spoon. As well as that 80's "must have" - an electric carving knife! Perfect for our Christmas Day turkey. The house was nice and warm - even warm enough for 91 year old Mother in Law. Large, clean and comfortable beds. Books, games, Now TV, computer, Internet for relaxing. Walks through the woods for the energetic. Steam railway opposite for the nostalgic. The proximity to the busiest road in the area was not a problem and not noticeable inside the house. The back garden is terraced so older kids can have lots of fun up and down and around. Maybe not for unsupervised younger kids though. The bunk room that we didn't use is quite small and out on its own by the Utility Room so kids can spend the night giggling without disturbing adult sleep! Will we revisit? Yes, we probably will.

The cottage was lovely and comfy. There were a couple of nice touches, like a lot of brochures for local attractions! Also about a 10 minute drive from Ulverston Central and a few supermarkets! It is very close to a busy Aroad though so be aware if you're going with kids, garden is enclosed but there is a low wall at the front

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. It is a lovely spacious house and well equipped in a great location with beautiful views. One of our party is a railway enthusiast and now more reliant on a wheel chair so it was an excellent location for the steam train and boat round Windermere. That journey with the views from the lake is unforgettable. He also enjoyed just sitting in the conservatory and watching the trains come in and leave. The staff at the station were incredibly friendly and helpful. We also had a lovely drive around Windermere and Coniston. On the Friday I took a walk up Haverthwaite Heights which was fantastic. I also managed a couple of visits to the Anglers Arms which is invitingly close and offers fabulous beer. We do hope we get the chance to visit you again

We were delighted with the property and had a most enjoyable stay. It met our needs perfectly. In particular, we appreciated the different seating areas with plenty of space for people to spread out and not get on top of each other. Although close to a busy road the house is well sound proofed so noise was not a problem. It was very well equipped and very comfortable. We arranged a delivery of groceries from Sainsburys

Great weekend ..We had a great time over the weekend and the weather shone on us. Very easy to book and very prompt responses from the owners. Everything was well organised. We used this as a base for some cycling and it was our 2nd time here, great location with the station opposite for breakfast and huge portions and the pub which serves lovely food just a 1 min walk away. We would return next year too
